About this event
Map Kuest: Guide to Klosing the Gap is an interactive public health initiative hosted in collaboration with the Beta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, designed to educate participants on the five domains of the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and their impact on health outcomes and health disparities. The event will feature a guest presentation by Dr. Robert Nobles, DrPH, MPH, a public health documentary screening, and an interactive case-study challenge. Participants will work collaboratively to analyze real-world scenarios highlighting barriers related to economic stability, education access and quality, healthcare access and quality, neighborhood and built environment, and social and community context. Each group will develop a community-based intervention, a policy or systems-level solution, and a potential local partnership to address its assigned health disparity. This initiative supports NSBWM's commitment to health education, community engagement, professional development, and advocacy for underserved populations. By encouraging future healthcare professionals to examine the social and systemic factors influencing health, the program aims to strengthen participants' critical thinking, leadership, and interdisciplinary problem-solving skills while empowering them to become advocates for health equity within their communities.
