  • Organizers for Night to Shine Tallahassee are collecting dress and formal wear donations for the prom event for neighbors with special needs on Feb. 13 at Immanuel Baptist Church (drop-offs are accepted beside the church office on Mahan Drive) as guest, volunteer, and buddy registrations remain open.  ABC 27
  • A Tallahassee woman forced to live in her car since November found help when a Facebook post on a freezing night sparked neighbors' support (providing gas, blankets and food) to keep her warm.  ABC 27

BUSINESS NEWS

  • USA TODAY Network announced a revamp of its Florida newsroom today, using over 200 journalists and specialized beats to cover local topics like weather, insurance, and community news. VP Wendy Fullerton Powell said the new model—designed for richer local storytelling—will connect communities across the state.  Tallahassee Democrat

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission reported that the state’s first black bear hunt in a decade ended with 52 bears killed from 172 permits issued. The hunt ran from Dec. 6 to Sunday in four areas + one near Tallahassee.  WFSU Public Media

  • Insurance expert Carl Fuqua advises residents to review their home and car policies early in the year to shop for better rates and check roof repair options that can lower premiums. He also stresses the need to understand flood coverage before repairs become costly.  WCTV
