COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local partners provided cold night sheltering Sunday as temperatures dipped to 35°F and will offer shelter tonight for those experiencing homelessness. Shelters are available at designated sites for single adults (The Kearney Center), families (HOPE Community), and youth (CCYS) from 4pm to 8pm.  WFSU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Over the weekend, the Tallahassee Camelia Society held its 72nd Annual Camelia Show at the Doyle Connor Center where exhibitors displayed 1,535 blooms from about 30 vendors (continuing a nearly 75-year tradition). Attendees learned growing tips for more spectacular displays.  WFSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local college basketball teams secured major conference wins on Saturday, Jan. 11 at several community venues. These results underline their strong performance and energized local sports fans.  WCTV
  • FSU men's basketball lost 113-69 to NC State at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center on Saturday. The loss dropped the team to 7-9 overall and they will play at Syracuse on Jan. 13 as they try to bounce back.  FSU News
  • Around 500 top runners from 50 nations competed in the World Athletic Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park as some Ethiopian team members were denied visas. Local officials say they will explore hosting the event again after a boost to the local economy ($4.3 million).  WFSU
