- ➤ Shelters were available in Tallahassee & Thomasville Sunday and Monday to help residents stay warm. In Tallahassee, shelters at the Kearney Center, HOPE community and CCYS operated between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. for adults, families and youth, and in Thomasville Fountain of Life Rescue Shelter opened at 6 p.m. WCTV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Florida State University’s Office of Research is hosting the 2026 Festival of the Creative Arts from Feb. 6 to March 1, showcasing faculty and student work across campus. This free event series features interactive performances plus hands-on activities for families in Tallahassee. Florida State University
- ➤ Daily Forsmans returns to the Southern Shakespeare Festival as Miranda in The Tempest from Feb. 19–22 at the Adderley Amphitheater in Cascades Park. She grew up through Bardlings training and is excited to take on the mainstage role supported by experienced actors. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Florida State University received a $1 million gift from Kathryn and Brian Ballard to expand the Food for Thought Pantry — the Division of Student Affairs' largest donation to address rising food insecurity among students. The funds will increase the pantry's space and support services for more students. Florida State University
- ➤ Florida's largest teachers union reported a rise in school vacancies from 2,260 in August to 2,363 now + districts are still struggling to fill teaching roles. The Department of Education credits pay raises and training programs with easing the shortage. WFSU Public Media
- ➤ School Board member Alva Smith will revisit school closure talks at Tuesday, Jan. 13 public meeting at the Aquillina Howell Center (closures could save an estimated $1M per school) amid concerns over several institutions operating under capacity. - ➤ A strong cold front will bring below-average temperatures to Tallahassee later this week — with lows near 26°F on Thursday and 34°F on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
