- ➤ Tallahassee will celebrate MLK Day on Jan. 19 with an annual parade—starting at noon along Monroe Street and ending with downtown festivities along Adams Street—while community partners host commemorative events such as a NAACP breakfast on Jan. 16. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Decorated TPD officer Chuck Perry died peacefully on Jan. 10 after battling Parkinson’s disease for 23 years — his funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church in Tallahassee. Tallahassee Reports

- ➤ On Jan. 12, USDA forecast 12 million boxes of oranges and 1.2 million boxes of grapefruit for the 2025-26 season, slightly below last season; however, growers are hopeful as healthier trees + new treatments may increase yield. - ➤ FSU's new Herbert Wertheim Center for Business Excellence opened Jan. 7 — a five-floor building offering modern study spaces — and features cafes, labs, and rooms near the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center to boost student success. FSU News

- ➤ Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed four new members (Ashley Lukis, Michael Okaty, Keith Perry, and Nick Sinatra) and reappointed two to the Florida Board of Governors today. The board, which oversees the state university system, now awaits Senate approval. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Gov. Ron DeSantis reappointed three FSU Board of Trustees alumni on Jan. 12, selecting vice chair (Cuevas-Diaz), business leader Maximo Alvarez, and real estate executive Jorge Gonzalez whose firm works on projects near Tallahassee. - ➤ More than 10,000 fans filled Apalachee Regional Park on Jan. 13, 2026 to watch the World Cross Country Championships — a record-setting event featuring a unique course with sand, mud, water, and hand-carved alligators and performances by the FSU Marching Chiefs and FAMU’s Marching 100.
