EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ FSU celebrated its 175th anniversary on Jan. 24 in Tallahassee with a kickoff event on Jan. 21 that featured a Legacy Walk (displaying historic seals and landmarks) and free cupcakes as university officials engaged with students during the celebrations. FSU News
- ➤ Legacy at FSU, a new student government party, hosted its inaugural event on Jan. 13 at Bowden’s — its co-leaders Miranda Ojea and London Jackaboice aim to restore bipartisanship and launch a mentorship program to boost student participation while denying any affiliation with Burning Spear. - ➤ At a Jan. 13 meeting, the Leon County School Board approved amendments to ethics, health, and student rights policies effective Jan. 14. - ➤ Senior guard Makiyah McHenry stepped up for Florida High’s young basketball team after eighth-grader Callie James suffered an ankle injury during their 60-38 win against Chiles last Friday; McHenry posted a double-double of 22+12 as coach Darryl Marshall said the team is building consistency for upcoming contests. - ➤ FSU’s national champion players Taylor Suarez, Giana Riley, and Yuna McCormack turned professional in January—Suarez joined Angel City FC, Riley signed with Club América and McCormack joined Denver Summit FC.
