  • Calvary Chapel Tallahassee opens the Kids Closet on the first Monday of each month to give free baby items to families at its church — the program offers essential supplies to those in need.  WCTV

  • eBottles opened a $10 million packaging plant at 428 Fortune Blvd & hired about 50 workers on Jan. 27 to support Trulieve's growth, marking a decade-long partnership between the companies.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • FSU’s Levana Choir joined Tallahassee Community Chorus on Jan. 25 at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall for America at 250, a tribute concert marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.   • Leon County Virtual School may close for the 2026-2027 school year after Superintendent Rocky Hanna said Tuesday evening that closing the school could help offset a $6.7 million shortfall, and board members will review options after the legislative session.  ABC 27
  • Mrs. Kris Prescott visited Mrs. Lambert's kindergarten class today at De Soto Trail Elementary School for the 100th day of school to share stories from her 100 years of life and offer advice to the young students.  WCTV
  • During Fall 2025, FSU student-athletes reached a record high GPA of 3.33 for the semester and a 3.36 cumulative average, with 76% earning at least a 3.0 and several teams setting personal records (SAAS credited its specialized academic support).  Florida State University

  • At Tallahassee Nurseries and Esposito's Garden Center, staff cover plants with frost cloth and wrap citrus trees with C9 lights as a cold front is expected to drop temperatures into the teens this weekend; they rely on on-site data to create microclimates and protect their inventory + ensure bloom survival.  Tallahassee Democrat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Major natural gas customers in Tallahassee curtailed usage during an interruptible event until 10 a.m. today — backup fuel sources kept buildings warm amid forecast lows in the low 20s, and officials expect another event this weekend.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • The Tallahassee Animal Shelter Foundation is hosting Pints for Paws at Goodwood Museum and Gardens on Saturday beginning at noon. More than 30 craft brewers, food trucks, and live music will support the shelter’s efforts to care for pets and their caregivers.  WFSU

  • FSU football's running back room is set to launch the 2026 season with Texas transfer Quintrevion Wisner (expected to lead) joining returning backs Ousmane Kromah and Samuel Singleton (both in contention for more carries).
