COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families at Florida's Sun State Estates Two mobile home park have been without running water for 5 days (management says a main line break and water leak point to a city supply issue) and residents now rely on bottled water for cooking, bathing, and flushing toilets.  ABC 27

CULTURE NEWS

  • nia love, an FSU School of Dance professor and alumna, earned her third Bessie Award for Outstanding Choreographer for UNDERcurrents—a multimedia work merging historical research and memory from Tallahassee and the Gulf Coast. She will open Floating Metal at the FSU Museum of Fine Arts in August.  Florida State University
  • Retrofit Records hosted a listening party on Feb. 3 where local fans previewed Joyce Manor’s new album, I Used To Go To This Bar. The event offered free refreshments (and a raffle for a signed picture), giving the community a chance to experience its pop-punk spirit.  FSU News

  • Leslie Odom, Jr. spoke at FSU’s Golden Torch Lecture series during MLK Week on Jan. 20 at Ruby Diamond Auditorium, where moderated discussions celebrated arts and history while inspiring the campus community.  Florida State University
  • FSU's Department of Mathematics hosts the 11th annual Math Fun Day on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Love Building (1017 Academic Way) for free, hands-on math activities for children and families. The event runs from 1-5 p.m. and is supported by over 100 volunteers.  Florida State University
  • Tallahassee State College's Foundation introduced Tally, its first AI-powered virtual engagement officer, yesterday to connect with alumni and donors via personalized emails and texts. The digital role will share updates and guide users to human support when needed.  Tallahassee Democrat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Florida Legislative Black Caucus dedicated the 'Circle of Chains' sculpture outside Union Bank on Feb. 3, honoring enslaved people whose work built our nation, and the ceremony featured a performance by Ayoka African Drum and Dance + remarks from Sen. Darryl Rouson.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • City officials said early-morning texts about constant water use came as a freeze led to more dripping from taps. Crews checked homes and officials will fix the system to cut down on false alerts.  Tallahassee Democrat

HEALTH NEWS

  • After a legal challenge, the Florida Department of Health withdrew plans to reduce eligibility for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program that would have cut services for 10,000 Floridians starting March 1 — the department will now draft new rules through a formal rulemaking process to allow public comment.  WCTV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Friends can visit Tallahassee Animal Service Center on Saturday, Feb. 14 from noon to 5 p.m. for Smooches with Pooches when all pet adoption fees are waived at 1125 Easterwood Drive (adoptions include up-to-date vaccinations, spay/neuter, food, and free six-month heartworm prevention).  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State softball will open its 2026 season against Samford tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Seminole Softball Complex, starting a challenging nonconference schedule with matchups against Texas Tech, UCLA, Tennessee, Alabama + Florida that will test the team’s offense and strength ahead of postseason play.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU alumnus Josh Williamson is set to represent the U.S. in two-man and four-man bobsled events at the Olympics in Italy starting Feb. 6 plus he trained intensively at an Innsbruck camp to boost his medal hopes after a 10th-place finish in 2022.  FSU News
  • FSU swimming lost its dual meet in Ocala against Florida on Jan. 30 but recorded five individual wins and NCAA qualifying swims by Robinson as they prepare for ACC Championships beginning Feb. 17. Coach Neal Studd said the meet served as key preparation for postseason competition.  FSU News
