  • Cars lined up early on Saturday, Feb. 7 for a free food giveaway at J. Lewis Hall Park. The Leon County Commission approved a three-way partnership with Farm Share & Carter's Corner that will hold at least four events this year to boost school readiness and ease food insecurity.  WFSU

  • Beverly Bonasorte is slowly recovering after a brain bleed caused by a January 4 accident on I‑10 near Live Oak — she is in Gainesville receiving therapy with a surgery scheduled to secure a skull bone flap as doctors note steady progress.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Local restaurants are gearing up for a busy Super Bowl Sunday as large crowds will watch the game from bars — Island Wing Company has prepped days in advance for high demand in wings and beer.  WCTV

  • Thousands in authentic Scottish attire gathered at Apalachee Regional Park this past weekend for the Fourth Annual Highland Games. Revived four years ago by Ryan May & supporters, the event featured national competitions, music, and local festivities.  WFSU

  • Leon County Public Library held a Black History Month Read-In on Saturday, where community members read African-American authors aloud to young listeners and families.   • Who We Play For and Leon County EMS will offer free heart screenings for students this Saturday at the Leon County Public Safety Complex in honor of National Youth Heart Screening Day (already screening over 2,500 students in three weeks) to help detect dangerous heart conditions early.  WCTV

  • FSU women's basketball beat Miami 87-70 on Feb. 8 at the Donald L. Tucker Center, snapping a three-game losing streak; Avery Treadwell scored a career-high 21 points off the bench.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • No. 7 Florida State softball blanked UConn 6-0 Sunday to improve its record to 5-0; freshman pitchers Marlee Gaskell and Bella Dimitrijevic led the win and the team will face Liberty on Tuesday (6 p.m. at Seminole Softball Complex in Tallahassee).  Tallahassee Democrat

  • FSU women's lacrosse won 14-4 in its inaugural game at the Seminole Lacrosse Complex on Saturday, Feb. 7 (the first game at the new venue). The team will face Kennesaw State at 1 p.m. today.  FSU News
