COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Second Harvest of the Big Bend announced a four-year grant of $400,000 from the Florida Blue Foundation to boost its FARMacy mobile market program (designed to bring fresh groceries to food-insecure rural neighborhoods in the Big Bend region). Officials say the funding will improve access to healthy food for those in need.  FSU News

  • Enson Market will open its first Tallahassee store by summer at 1964 W. Tennessee St. The new location will offer fresh produce, seafood & daily essentials for local shoppers.  Tallahassee Democrat

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Monday, Feb. 9, WCTV's Lanetra Bennett and Keiser University's Chef James Taylor prepared a garlic miso braised pot roast in a local kitchen, offering a fresh twist on a classic dish for food lovers.  WCTV
  • FSU will host its 31st Annual International Bazaar on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the FSU Student Union Ballrooms (75 N. Woodward Ave). ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two invasive termite species are spreading across Florida and may threaten homes by mid-century, according to a University of Florida study. Homeowners in Tallahassee are advised to remove wood debris and manage water drainage to help protect their structures.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • FSU is ready for a busy spring after a $265 million renovation turned Doak Campbell Stadium into a year‑round venue. The athletic program has surged in ticket sales for lacrosse, softball, baseball, and marquee events like the Bananas (Feb. 26-28) and a PBR show (Mar. 13-14).  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Local head football coach Scott Klees retired after over two decades of leading Wakulla, including a district championship in his final season with his son as quarterback. He was inducted into the FACA Hall of Fame on Jan. 10 and stays on as a teacher.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • The 17th Annual Capital City Senior Games will begin on Feb. 25 with a Fun Walk and Torch Run at Cascades Park at 6:00 p.m. The event will feature 25 sports activities for athletes 50+ and run through March 17th.  ABC 27
