  • The Over The Edge event will soon let locals face their fear of heights while raising support for Make-A-Wish kids in Tallahassee. Organizers say participants will take on this challenge safely as they help benefit children in need.  WCTV

  • University Philharmonia presents the U.S. premiere of Arthur Barbosa’s Variations in Search of a Theme by Matos Rodríguez at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 in Opperman Music Hall (free event) and launches Barbosa’s residency as part of doctoral work by Guilherme Leal Rodrigues.  Florida State University
  • On Feb. 10 at 2:15 p.m., over 100 visitors lined the Capitol for Miami-Dade Days as chef Paulette Billsky-Phillips from Coral Gables cooked a giant paella filled with seafood, vegetables, and saffron — a longstanding tradition at the Capitol courtyard.  Tallahassee Democrat

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Leon County’s December report shows a 4.9% unemployment rate—down from 5.4% in November—with 157,743 employed from a workforce of 165,840. The Florida rate was 4.4% and a final 2025 report with revised numbers will be released in March.  Tallahassee Reports

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Leon County School District proposed $7M budget cuts to address rising costs and declining enrollment, which include reducing interventionists, social workers, and arts programs. The board discussed the proposals on Tuesday, Feb. 10 and will review final decisions later.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • The Tallahassee State College Speech and Debate team won the Individual Team Sweepstakes title at Las Positas Tournament in Livermore this past weekend, with every member earning an award in seven events. The team will compete at the State Championship later this week.  Tallahassee Reports
  • On Tuesday, WCTV's Julie Montanaro read 'I Wish That I Had Duck Feet' live at a read-along event that is part of the Let's Read initiative aimed at funding books for Title I schools in Leon County. The program, in partnership with Midtown Reader, supports three-yearly book fairs for students.  WCTV

  • St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge is reintroducing its Behind the Gates tour today, offering neighbors a tram ride through trails that showcase water control structures and burn plots — a chance to learn firsthand about local conservation.   • Charlie Woods announced his verbal commitment on Instagram to join Florida State's golf team in 2027, choosing to stay in-state instead of exploring options at Stanford + building on his family's golf legacy.  WFLA
