COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Goodwill Industries sponsor Reentry Ready, a clothing drive for people returning after incarceration. The first drop-off is Monday, Feb. 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the LCSO outdoor greenspace (2825 Major James Morgan, Jr. Way).  WFSU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jefferson K-12 senior Sh'marion Ford balances academics, athletics, and dual enrollment at North Florida College while leading a family of 10 children—he earned recognition on signing day as a strong role model at school and home.  ABC 27
  • Florida State University set a new record with a 99.2% retention rate for first-year students from fall to spring during the 2025-2026 school year—showing strong support for student achievement. Out of 6,425 new students, 6,374 stayed enrolled, marking one of the highest rates in the nation.  Florida State University
  • Charlie Woods, a Benjamin School junior and son of Tiger Woods, committed on Feb. 10 to play golf at Florida State University after graduating in 2027 & will join the Seminoles to continue his family’s sporting legacy. He made the announcement two days after his 17th birthday.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Gadsden County School District held a community meeting on Wednesday about the new K-8 school under construction, asking residents to provide feedback on board decisions for the school name+ mascot. Construction continues on underground utilities and the cafeteria building, and the school is set to open in August 2027.  WCTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • FSU standout first baseman Myles Bailey, a Tallahassee native, finished his freshman season with a .327 average, 19 home runs, 32 walks, and a .990 fielding percentage; he will help lead his team in a weekend series against James Madison today.  FSU News
  • TLH Reckoning has unveiled its summer schedule, which includes ten regular season matches from May 23 to June 27 and five home games at Gene Cox Stadium.  WCTV
  • FSU baseball player Link Jarrett talked about his starting rotation and plans for Opening Day — his remarks came during a media briefing in Tallahassee as the team prepares for the season opener.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State football hires Gabe Fertitta as director of football strategy and offensive assistant, returning him to Tallahassee after coaching at Nicholls State (he previously served as a Seminole analyst). Coach Mike Norvell said Fertitta will boost the offense after a season that led the ACC in total offense.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Madison County high school football players signed their college grants on Wednesday, with five cowboys—Quez Christian, Boosie Miller, Travis Arnold, Johnny Norwood and Zakari Neal—heading to Northeast Oklahoma A&M while Isaiah Butler shifted his commitment to FAMU DRS after academic clearance. Last week, over 50 players celebrated grant signings.  WCTV
