  • Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida organized a daring fundraiser on Saturday at the Double Tree downtown, where fundraisers rappelled 16 stories after raising $1,500 each. The event aimed to raise $75,000 to support wish grants for ten children (cheered on by supportive locals).  WCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Feb. 12, FSU Philharmonic presented the American premiere of Arthur Barbosa’s 'Variations in Search of a Theme' at Opperman Music Hall, featuring works by Mozart & Hanson to showcase Brazilian music on campus. The event set the stage for upcoming cultural shows.  FSU News
  • Stan Johnson Creative Gallery has reopened the former Anderson-Brickler Gallery space on Tallahassee’s Southside to showcase local talent and offer workshops through his work as a FAMU professor — with the current 'New Beginnings' exhibit running until April 11.  ABC 27

EDUCATION NEWS

  • FAMU’s Board approved consolidating seven degree programs and terminating one on Feb. 12 to meet state performance benchmarks and modernize curriculum. The changes, including merging Black studies, led to student frustration over limited communication while the university said it will continue to support the field.  Tallahassee Democrat

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Tallahassee might see strong storms between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. — meteorologists say heavy rain, damaging winds, and a brief tornado are possible, though the rain should help ease dry conditions.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Officials issued a water-shortage warning for the Big Bend and urged residents to conserve water by running sprinklers early or late and using rain gauges to measure output. Arborist Michael Cross offered tips such as keeping grass longer to help retain moisture.  WCTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Tallahassee resident’s organ donation on National Donor Day saved three lives when her kidneys went to two young men and her liver helped Kris Vanni recover from a severe illness. Families connected through her decision offer hope as more than 5,000 people statewide wait for transplants.  WCTV

  • FSU softball rallied from a 4—1 deficit to beat FAU 9—5 at the Clearwater Invitational yesterday, with key hits from freshmen spurring a comeback that solidified the win.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FAMU DRS Baby Rattlers defeated Eagles View Academy 62-51 in a FHSAA Regional Quarterfinal game on Saturday in Tallahassee (a big second half helped secure the win).  WCTV
  • FSU softball scored 11 early runs to beat UCLA 11 to 7 yesterday at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, with Jaysoni Beachum hitting two home runs and driving in five runs.   • Florida State baseball defeated James Madison 16-5 Saturday at Dick Howser Stadium, highlighted by a strong performance from the top four batters (12-for-14 with 11 RBI); the team is set to finish its series today at 1 p.m., although severe weather may delay the game.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Coach Brandon Shingles supported his sister, Amirahs Hayes, at her final home game Friday as Rickards won 55 to 33 over Menendez, ahead of his playoff debut with Crossroad Academy.
