  • Leon County Sheriff’s Office held a clothing drive Monday to collect business and casual attire for individuals reentering society, with donated suits + ties helping boost their job readiness; a donation bin remains available at the sheriff’s office for further support.  WCTV

  • *FAMU-FSU Engineering professor Christian Hubicki* returns to Survivor for its 50th season where he will compete with 23 returning players for a $1 million prize; the premiere airs Feb. 25.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida State University was ranked No. 1 in Florida for innovation and economic impact in TIME’s inaugural rankings (evaluating patents, industry partnerships, and commercialization) released recently; it placed 18 among U.S. public universities and 35 overall.  Florida State University
  • FSU’s National MagLab is hosting a free open house on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1800 E. Paul Dirac Drive in Innovation Park. The event offers lab demos, an Alice in Wonderland play lab and a short-story reading by Robert Olen Butler plus hands-on exhibits.  Florida State University
  • Florida State University held the Arts Health Humanities Symposium at the Claude Pepper Center on Feb. 10, where faculty and students explored research linking creative arts with healthcare. The event was part of the Festival of Creative Arts and featured projects on music therapy and design for older adults.  Florida State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leon County officials announced that a section of Velda Dairy Road between Rabbit Pond Trail and Monterey Pines Trail will be closed today to Feb. 24 for utility tie-ins and road resurfacing near Velda Dairy Villas. Drivers will follow detour routes along Bradfordville, Thomasville, and Kerry Forest Parkway.  WCTV
  • On Wednesday, the Tallahassee city commission will consider the Air Service Incentive & Capacity Improvements program to speed up air service recruitment. The Office of Economic Vitality established the $10,050,000 program following a May 8 BPIA approval, and it will support new airline routes through Fiscal Year 2040.  Tallahassee Reports
  • The Leon County School Board voted three to two on Tuesday, Feb. 10 to reject a proposal by Board Member Alva Smith for a citizen-led advisory group to study enrollment trends and school facilities. Board members said they preferred relying on internal analysis (citing staff expertise).  Tallahassee Reports

  • FSU baseball opened its season with wins over JMU at Dick Howser Stadium on Feb. 13 and 14 as strong pitching and key hits from Myles Bailey and Noah Sheffield powered the team; it begins a four-game road trip today against Jacksonville University.  FSU News
  • Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, committed to FSU yesterday to join a top-ranked 2027 recruiting class — boosting the golf program's reputation. A standout in high school, he will arrive in Tallahassee in about 15 months.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • On Thursday, Feb. 12, Chiles High School's boys and girls tennis teams beat Leon, with the boys at 3-0 and the girls at 2-1 after winning most match positions—showing strong play this season.  Tallahassee Reports
  • Florida State baseball won a weather-shortened series against James Madison as the Seminoles outscored the Dukes 21-6, with standout Noah Sheffield going 3-for-3 & strong bullpen work. The team will face Jacksonville today at 6 p.m. at John Sessions Stadium.  Tallahassee Democrat
