CULTURE NEWS

  • Tallahassee PrideFest returns to Cascades Park at 1001 S Gadsden St on Saturday, March 7 from 2-7 p.m. Local leader Janel Diaz will co-host the free event as her alter-ego Vashai Avionce with drag performers, food trucks and local artists.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida State University is hosting the 2026 Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Expo (AIMLX26) at the Challenger Learning Center on Friday, Feb. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with experts exploring AI in medicine, finance, and education; Saturday, Feb. 28 will feature interactive activities and faculty lectures for local students.  Florida State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A cold front dropped temperatures by as much as 40 degrees, pushing Tallahassee to near the upper 20s today while warmer areas lag and red flag warnings for wildfires remain in effect as drought continues and experts warn that even local iguanas may struggle.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • A total lunar eclipse will be visible in Tallahassee on Tuesday, March 3 between 3:44 and 7:03 a.m. ET, with peak viewing at 6:33 a.m. & the moon will turn a ghostly copper color during this blood moon event.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • More fresh water will soon flow in the Apalachicola River floodplain as the Apalachicola Riverkeeper finished a six-year, $4.7 million project to clear sand from three sloughs (East River, Douglas Slough and Spider Cut) to help local wildlife, support tupelo trees, and boost the local economy.  WFSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City commissioners are pushing to speed up roadwork in the Market District so that a roundabout at the intersection of Maclay Boulevard and Maclay Commerce Drive will be completed by late summer. Work will begin on March 1 + clearer signage will help drivers navigate detours, easing local business concerns.  Tallahassee Democrat

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A proposed 86-unit affordable housing project on South Monroe in Tallahassee aims to help very low-income households if Volunteers of America of Florida secures funding, with Leon County Commission approving over $93,000; decision on the application is expected in March and construction could take two to three years.  ABC 27

SPORTS NEWS

  • ACC Network aired Leonard Hamilton's documentary on Monday, Feb. 23, at 9 p.m. The hour-long program detailed his journey from a segregated upbringing to becoming Florida State's winningest coach, highlighting his impact on local sports.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State rallied to beat Clemson 70+65 at Littlejohn Coliseum as McCray V tied his season high with 29 points. The Seminoles improved to 14-13 and will face Miami at 9:00 p.m. today at the Tucker Center.  Tallahassee Reports
  • FSU swimmers broke 10 records at the ACC Championships in Atlanta from Feb. 15-21, with Logan Robinson claiming his first ACC gold in the 200-yard butterfly on Feb. 20 & the Seminoles set to compete for a spot at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens from Feb. 28 to Mar. 1.  FSU News
  • Florida State softball beat Elon 9-1 on Sunday at JoAnne Graf Field, with standout efforts from pitcher Jazzy Francik & a five-run rally sparked by Makenna Sturgis. The Seminoles will host Florida A&M on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the same field.  FSU News
  • The No. 7 FSU softball team played at the Dugout Club Classic here last week. They secured run-rule wins over Dartmouth but lost both contests to No. 9 Alabama — testing their game plan against top-ranked pitching.  FSU News
