COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office hosted its annual Capital County Community Classic basketball tournament to build closer ties with teens; the free event gave the winning team a $1,500 prize. LCSO Chief Bobby Green said the tournament helped officers and youth connect outside of a formal setting.  WCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • A total lunar eclipse will be visible in Tallahassee tomorrow as the moon slips through Earth’s shadow and turns a ghostly copper color. In the city, viewers can catch the eclipse from 3:44 a.m. to 7:03 a.m. ET, with best viewing at 6:33 a.m. (weather permitting).  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Today, LaunchPoint Tallahassee launches a 12-month pilot offering in-person digital skills training, career counseling, FAFSA support & AI education for high school students, young adults and career-switchers at the newly renovated Leon County Public Library downtown, backed by a $100K Knight Foundation grant and Capital City Chamber partnership.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Tallahassee seniors celebrated their achievements at the 16th Annual Links Beautillion at Florida State University's Dunlap Champion Club yesterday — an event focused on leadership and career growth, with applications for next year's program available beginning in September.  ABC 27

  • Florida State football added top-rated JUCO transfer Malachi Marshall to its quarterback competition after signing him in February; spring practice begins March 9. The 6'2 three-star prospect stood out at Iowa Western, his only official visit having been with the Seminoles + he led his team to a national title.  FSU News
  • Doak Campbell Stadium will host a Professional Bull Riding event that transforms the field with 2,500 tons of dirt ahead of concerts by Jon Pardi and Miranda Lambert on March 13 and 14. A 50-person crew will work for a week (preparing the unique venue) for this entertainment event.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FAMU baseball clinched a three-game series win at Moore-Kittles Field from Saturday, Feb. 28 to Sunday, March 1 by out-hitting Central Connecticut State 22+17 and will face the Florida Gators in Gainesville on Wednesday, March 4.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • At Banana Ball, the Bananas won their season opener 5—3 against the Texas Tailgators on Saturday at a sold-out stadium with around 60,000—70,000 fans. Former Rattler TY Jackson said he was impressed to play ball in his college town.  WCTV
  • FSU women's basketball ended its regular season with a 77-74 overtime win at Wake Forest on March 1 & the team, led by Sydney Bowles, now heads to Duluth, Ga to face Georgia Tech in the ACC tournament opening round.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • The Banana Ball team played Texas tailgators on Sunday, Mar. 1, in front of a sold-out crowd (60 to 70,000 fans) that marked the end of a week-long celebration.  WCTV
  • FSU baseball beat Citadel in a 2-0 series sweep on Mar. 1 at Dick Howser Stadium as Bryson Moore pitched six quiet innings and Chris Knier secured a nine-out save. The team will face Jacksonville on Tuesday and Mercer on Wednesday + preparing for midweek showdowns.  Tallahassee Democrat
