- ➤ Leon County volunteer firefighter-EMT Karl Hook was named Florida Volunteer Firefighter of the Year on March 2 at the Florida Historic Capitol Museum (the old Capitol) after more than 30 years of service with Bradfordville and Chaires-Capitola departments. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Pioneers of Punk revives Tallahassee’s underground music legacy with an art exhibit and concert series from March 5-8 at 621 Gallery + The Bark + RCT Underground. - ➤ Florida lawmakers proposed a bill to let trained college professors carry concealed weapons on campus, drawing opposition from students & faculty groups who worry it could escalate conflicts. The measure awaits a Senate hearing and may soon be signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Tallahassee Democrat
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wakulla Environmental Institute is using oyster domes in Oyster Bay to restore reef habitats and reduce shoreline erosion. The institute now plans to expand its project site from 4 acres to 16 acres (quadrupling the area) and is seeking funding to deploy up to 3,000 additional domes. ABC 27
