ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices at local stations in Tallahassee rose to $3.122 on average as state figures show a 54 cent increase since March 2 amid tensions from the Iran conflict. Drivers are advised to compare prices using apps & adjust driving habits to save fuel.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • FSU students (over 1,800 participants) raised over $1.5 million at a 30-hour Dance Marathon held from Feb. 27 to Mar. 1 at Donald L. Tucker Civic Center to fund pediatric healthcare, with local high schools adding $317,000. The event continues a 31-year legacy of community support.  FSU News
  • Florida State University launched its new Herbert Wertheim Center for Business Excellence on March 7 to provide students with a dynamic space for networking and study. HEALTH NEWS

  • The Black Family Wellness Expo connected residents with screenings and dental services in South Tallahassee. Hosted by the Tallahassee chapter of The Links Incorporated with FAMU Developmental Research School, the 3rd annual event offered kidney testing and education to help manage diabetes and hypertension — key steps for better health.  ABC 27

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State baseball earned a 13-3 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday at Dick Howser Stadium with a steal of home and a grand slam that put the Seminoles in run-rule territory. The team will host NKU today at 1 p.m. at Howser as it pursues a sweep.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FAMU men’s basketball defeated Bethune-Cookman 81-77 at the Al Lawson Center, drawing 3,100 fans for the SWAC season finale.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU softball clinched its series with a 5-2 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday + the team surged with three runs in the fourth and two in the seventh, riding strong pitching and timely hits.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FAMU football held its first scrimmage in spring training camp with new head coach Quinn Gray Sr discussing player performances of Isaiah Knowles and Caden Brown as part of his practice insights.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Bull rider Marco Rizzo, a Tallahassee native, will return home for the two-day PBR Unleash the Beast event on March 13–14 at Doak Campbell Stadium, featuring concerts by country stars Jon Pardi & Miranda Lambert.   • Chauncey Wiggins scored a career-high 31 points (his best yet) as Florida State defeated SMU 91-78 on Saturday at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The Seminoles now prepare for the ACC tournament on Wednesday at Spectrum Center in Charlotte.  Tallahassee Democrat
