COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Leon County Undersheriff Argatha Rigby-Gilmore announced a community approach to homelessness today at The Kearney Center, where residents receive hot meals, showers, case management and medical care. The strategy partners local services (including the Sheriff’s Office and civic groups) to boost housing, healthcare and employment support.  Tallahassee Democrat

CULTURE NEWS

  • FSU College of Motion Picture Arts hosted an Oscars-style fundraiser today at The Moon in South Tallahassee, offering a red carpet experience that raised funds for student films + equipment. Community members enjoyed supporting future filmmakers during the event.  ABC 27
  • Brad Pitt’s racing film F1, filmed at Daytona Beach at the Rolex 24 & New Smyrna’s Pappas Drive-In which was damaged by a fire in March 2025, won the Best Sound Oscar on Sunday, March 15 while earning four nominations that celebrated Florida’s role in the film.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Today, the Bobby Bowden Legacy Auction attracts over 1,500 bidders during its final open house at his Killearn Estates home (1 to 7 p.m.), and the auction concludes tomorrow.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Local actor Emily Cole stars in Palaver Tree Theater’s production 'The Half-Life of Marie Curie,' running March 19–21 with evening shows at 8 p.m. and matinees at 2 p.m. at 59 Shadeville Road, Crawfordville + tickets cost $15, with a pay-what-you-can night on March 19.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nims Middle School cut the ribbon on its $4 million gym today, funded by Leon County's half-penny sales tax, and the facility will open for students on March 24 (Superintendent Rocky Hanna plans to ask voters to renew the tax initiative in November).  Tallahassee Democrat

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Tallahassee residents can vote today for the best chicken restaurant as the poll features 16 local spots in a head-to-head bracket with initial voting closing at 8 a.m. Friday, March 20. The contest will continue weekly until a winner is named on Monday, April 13.  Tallahassee Democrat

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • SMRT Capital has built four duplexes and three single-family homes in Greater Bond near FAMU, and is constructing eight more duplexes and a commercial building; the firm plans long-term, responsible development for the Southside community.
