- ➤ TD Bank announced it will close 38 branches across the US beginning in June, including three Florida branches at Daytona Beach at 1590 S. Nova Rd & Lake City at 160 NW Main Blvd & Miami Beach at 500 Collins Ave, and the decision follows its guilty plea to money laundering that resulted in a $3 billion penalty. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ On St. Patrick's Day, the Tallahassee Irish Step Dancers performed lively traditional steps at local celebrations (Tallahassee) and drew community members with their energetic routine. The event highlighted Irish cultural heritage and added festive spirit to the holiday. WCTV

- ➤ The Gorillabots, the Cornerstone Learning Community Lego League team, will travel to Houston for a national competition—they will present an innovation project at the event. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ A local group of six middle schoolers called the Gorillabots will travel to Houston for the FIRST LEGO League World Championship from April 16th to 19th after advancing from state competitions in Orlando. The team is accepting donations to help cover up to $8,000 in travel and registration costs — they value teamwork and gracious professionalism — and are one of two Florida teams to qualify. - ➤ The Atlantic hurricane season will begin June 1 and last through November 30, and Florida saw three hurricanes in 2024 — two were major storms that remind new residents to prepare early. Local officials advise residents to inspect homes and sign up for weather alerts as early predictions for the 2025 season are expected soon. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ On Friday morning, Tallahassee lawmakers questioned Florida's Insurance Commissioner Michael Yaworsky and former commissioner David Altmaier over a confidential report that stated insurers funneled $14 billion to related companies from 2017 to 2019—lawmakers vowed to continue oversight and demand clearer regulations to help curb rising insurance rates. - ➤ Today, the Leon County Commission will review the fiscal 2026 budget for outside agencies and CHSP—an organization funding programs for homelessness and domestic violence—with CHSP asking for an early review of its $1,445,000 proposal. The board will also set recommended funding levels for other contracts and events before finalizing the budget in September. Tallahassee Reports
- ➤ Last week, the Tallahassee Police Department signed a memorandum of agreement with ICE that lets selected officers check immigration status during routine stops while enforcing federal law. City Commissioner Jack Porter questioned whether the city was required to follow the deal while City Manager Reese Goad defended it—state officials also set up a dashboard to track law enforcement compliance with the immigration rules.
