  • Carla Marie Reid built the popular Black Dog Cafe near Lake Ella nearly 30 years ago and is now honored with the Trailblazer Award from the Oasis Center for Women and Girls during Women’s History Month—she balanced raising her children, finishing her studies and teaching for 20 years while running the cafe.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Florida State University chemists have created a machine learning tool that can tell the chemical make-up of dried salt solutions from a photo with 99% accuracy. The tool uses robotics to prepare over 2,000 samples a day—making chemical analysis cheaper for space missions, law enforcement tests and hospital diagnostics.  Florida State University

  • Leon County government and Knight Creative Communities Institute unveiled three new crosswalks Tuesday in downtown Tallahassee+ the designs along Calhoun Street near College Avenue and Jefferson Street aimed to improve pedestrian safety and celebrate public art.  WCTV
  • Two astronauts from Boeing’s Starliner mission, Sunita Williams and Barry Butch Wilmore, splashed down Tuesday evening near Tallahassee using a SpaceX Dragon capsule after nearly 300 days in orbit. Their mission was extended due to technical issues with Starliner—causing a delay—before their return.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • At The Getaway Grille and Bar on Allen Road, thousands of bees swarmed a red patio tent and staff had to escort customers to safety—lawyer-beekeeper Jim Messer rescued the bees using a nuc box and moved them to his hives in about one hour. The restaurant will treat Messer and his wife to dinner and drinks as a token of thanks.  Tallahassee Democrat
