  • South Tallahassee restaurant The Lunchbox reopens today after a car struck its building days earlier, with owner David Raney noting a fundraiser has helped pay for repairs+support for employees and maintain community spirit.  ABC 27

CULTURE NEWS

  • The North Florida Renaissance Faire takes place this weekend at the North Florida Fairgrounds and features jousting, sword fights and live music for all ages. Competitors, including Mexico champion Carlos Doce, will face off in the Intercontinental Jousting Championship amid festive costumes and historic flair.  ABC 27
  • Panacea Craft Beer & Oyster Fest returns for its 6th annual event at Woolley Park this Saturday, March 21 from 12 to 4 p.m., featuring a free oyster vendor market and a ticketed beer festival that benefits Panacea Waterfronts.  Tallahassee Democrat

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported five Florida counties now average over $4 per gallon as of March 18, with Tallahassee rates near $3.80 and the state average at about $3.93. Prices jumped more than $1 since early March + apps help drivers find cheaper gas.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida is on track to rank in the top 10 global economies, according to the Florida Chamber Foundation report released this week. The report shows the state already leads in business startups and cut childhood poverty by 158,000 while leaders stress housing and infrastructure improvements.  WCTV

  • Florida State University scholar Olivia K. Cook was named National Postdoc of the Year at the NPA conference in San Francisco on Friday, Mar. 13, recognizing her leadership that helped improve postdoc support and training for new researchers transitioning to Tallahassee (including health and parental leave initiatives).  Florida State University

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare sued a patient (in Room 373) who has occupied her hospital bed since discharge last October. The hospital has asked a judge for an injunction and plans to enlist the sheriff's help if needed.  CBS News

  • Bobby Bowden’s Legacy Auction ended Wednesday at 6 p.m. as local bidders drove up prices — his engraved 1993 Orange Bowl ring sold for $23,000 and an FSU alumnus won his Killearn Estates home.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU baseball second baseman Eli Putnam turned his bench role into a key spot by earning his first start and hitting a grand slam in recent games + FSU will face NC State Friday at 6 p.m. at Dick Howser Stadium.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • On March 13, Godby hosted the Tariq Barfield Invitational, where Leon County schools competed in track and field at Godby. Rickards won the boys team title and Florida High claimed the girls title+ standout athletes included Arinthius Stevens in the 110-meter hurdles and Lainey Crisafulli in the 100-meter hurdles.  Tallahassee Reports
