  • Joanne Gallagher was honored as a Trailblazer by the Oasis Center for Women and Girls on March 25 — recognizing her leadership in building SOAR and empowering community organizations in Tallahassee.   • Tallahassee will host a busy weekend as Springtime Tallahassee kicks off Friday with live country music & community runs, followed by a Saturday Grand Parade, Jubilee, Tally Zine Fest and French-themed Symphony concert, and continues with film screenings and bonus events later in the weekend.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Florida State University's Paul Marty is available for interviews on National AI Literacy Day on Mar. 27; he works with campus stakeholders to help educators use artificial intelligence responsibly and stresses that human creativity remains essential.  Florida State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • AccuWeather forecasts a near- or below-average hurricane season with 11-16 named storms and 3-5 direct impacts expected (especially along Florida’s northern coast near Tallahassee) as warmer waters may cause rapid storm intensification ahead of the season starting on June 1.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU Marine Lab’s diving program supports PhD candidate Morgan Hawkins who is monitoring bay scallops from a hatchery at eight sites near Dog Island to restore wild populations. The research, conducted over (62 hours underwater), will inform plans to build a local restoration hatchery for coastal communities.  ABC 27

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City and county commissioners sent a letter today to state officials after scientists discovered PFAS in several private water wells south of Tallahassee near the city's wastewater spray field on Tram Road. They urged immediate testing of nearly 1,000 wells + potential legal measures if the state does not act.  WFSU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. DeSantis signed legislation Tuesday, March 25 to provide $31 million stopgap funding for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, which will offer HIV medication to over 11,000 clients until the Legislature approves a full spending plan.  WFSU Public Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • Leon County will host the kick-off kayak fishing tournament on March 27-28 at Lake Talquin and nearby waterways. The event features multiple divisions, prizes and national exposure + boosting the county’s reputation as a destination for outdoor sports.  FOX 49
  • Florida State softball extended its winning streak to 18 games with an 8-0 run-rule win over UNF at JoAnne Graf Field on March 24; Isa Torres hit a leadoff home run and Jazzy Francik pitched three scoreless innings (marking the Seminole Sound’s season debut).  FSU News
