- ➤ The Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee at 200 S. Duval St. will host Tallahassee Chess Fest from March 28 to March 30 — a free event featuring a film screening, interactive chess sessions, a Simul match, grandmaster games, lectures and tournaments for all skill levels. The festival will bring community members together to enjoy chess in a fun and educational setting — with some events requiring registration. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ One person died when a fire on Flicker Road on March 26th — which engulfed a mobile home and spread to nearby woods — prompted an early morning response by firefighters. ABC 27

- ➤ FSU’s Museum of Fine Arts will host a free Opening Nights concert on Thursday, April 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.—the event features award-winning producer Larry Mitchell and four acclaimed musicians, with tickets required and doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The performance is in partnership with FSU Center for Autism & Related Disabilities and Arts4All Florida. - ➤ Envision Credit Union and Addition Financial Credit Union submitted an application to merge to expand services for members across Central Florida, North Florida and South Georgia + the merger is expected to be completed by year-end. WCTV

- ➤ Florida lawmakers debated bills to limit oil drilling after a House committee cleared a measure on Tuesday following an exploratory permit at Dead Lakes in a large National Estuarine Research Reserve. The House proposal — introduced by Rep. Jason Shoaf and Rep. Allison Tant — bans drilling within 10 miles of the reserve, while a Senate measure did not include an outright ban. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ At a City Commission meeting yesterday, community members, TMH board members and local healthcare providers spoke out against plans that might sell TMH to FSU and remove local control. City Manager Reese Goad said future talks will include the city, TMH and FSU to decide the hospital's future—critics have accused officials of secret meetings and divisive remarks. - ➤ A Florida House committee approved a bill on March 26th that would set stricter rules for collecting and checking petition signatures for changes to the state Constitution. The law would cut the filing period from 30 to 10 days and require signature gatherers to be Florida residents—steps that critics say could block citizen proposals while supporters say it will curb fraud.
