  • Residents in Jefferson County have complained about unbearable smells—likened to a dead skunk—and constant noise from a cannabis facility that some say has dropped home values; Trulieve said it has invested in odor mitigation technology and will continue working with locals to address the issue.  ABC 27

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Off-duty firefighter Tyler McAdams rescued a woman from a burning car on Highway 98 between Medart and Panacea by breaking the window with his helmet and pulling her to safety with two bystanders’ help—EMS arrived about a minute later and she is expected to recover.  Tallahassee Democrat

CRIME NEWS

  • Aaron Giles, a 46-year-old delivery driver, was shot and killed in Tallahassee on March 22 in a possible case of mistaken identity—police found him with multiple gunshot wounds inside the Sunrise Place apartment complex at 12:20 a.m.—and his wife is now calling for stricter gun laws while launching a GoFundMe to cover funeral and travel costs.  Tallahassee Democrat

CULTURE NEWS

  • FSU Flying High Circus replaced its big top tent in Tallahassee this week with help from construction workers—repair costs have reached about $850,000 so far. The new tent arrived from Italy and shows will resume this fall—restoring a key community performance space after tornado damage over 10 months ago.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Local writer Paula Walborsky will moderate the Florida Book Awards nonfiction panel at the Midtown Reader Stage in Cascades Park during the Word of South festival from April 4-6. The panel — scheduled for 1:45 p.m. on April 5 — will feature award-winning authors such as Barbara Drake-Vera, Evan Bennett, and Raymond Arsenault.  Tallahassee Democrat

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tallahassee International Airport will receive more than $2 million through a matching grant for a 40,000-square-foot customs facility that will serve both commercial and general aviation. The facility is 80% complete and will finish by year-end—helping launch a Foreign Trade Zone expected to create over 1,600 jobs and add more than $300 million annually to the local economy.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Navy veteran Ritaann Schultz pedaled a bike ride of 100 miles this week from the Withlacoochee Trail Head to Tampa’s VA hospital to raise brain injury awareness — a Vietnam-era veteran and brain injury survivor — marking the end of her journey along the Suncoast Trail.  WCTV

  • Today the Tallahassee Urban League finished rehab work on three rundown homes in the Griffin Heights neighborhood, handing new keys to neighbors Lucious Givens, Lachanth Hall, and Homer Frailey. The project replaced damaged roofs and outdated systems with energy-efficient features — part of a four-decade effort to boost homeownership locally.  ABC 27
