CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 29, nearly ideal weather boosted attendance at the 57th Springtime Tallahassee Festival held downtown, where a grand parade on Monroe Street showcased floats, marching bands and community groups. Booths along Park Avenue and Adams Street allowed local groups to share key messages on service dog awareness and reducing youth tobacco use—important themes at the event.  WFSU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last week at Club Downunder, Andre Aciman answered questions from over 100 FSU students about his creative process and his new memoir—highlighting his teen years in Rome after leaving Egypt—and added that he wrote his hit novel 'Call Me by Your Name' in just three months.  FSU News
  • FSU’s 'Mending Democracy' exhibit is on display today in the William Johnston Building and invites students to stitch fabric pieces from 3 to 5 p.m. on weekdays until April 4. Associate Professor Amber Ward and Ph.D. candidate Hsin Fang lead the project—showing how small acts of teamwork can mirror democratic ideas.  FSU News
  • Some FSU seniors discovered they were missing graduation credits due to advisor errors (one theater major learned she was two credits short and another had an internship credit mistake) and will walk the stage at graduation yet must complete classes afterward.  FSU News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Audubon Florida is touring the state to celebrate its 125th anniversary and honor its long fight to save birds from being killed for their feathers. A new exhibit at the Tallahassee Museum runs through May 31—showing the group’s work in protecting birds like the roseate spoonbill.  WFSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • FSU head coach Lonni Alameda discussed the team's sweep of NC State in a recent interview (providing his perspective). He explained the game performance that led to the series victory (detailing a strong win).  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FAMU baseball swept Prairie View A&M in a weekend series at Moore-Kittles Field with strong pitching and defense. The team will play a non-conference game at Troy (1 p.m.) on Tuesday and host Jackson State in a series (three games) next weekend.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • On March 26, the No. 8 FSU softball team beat the Stetson Hatters 5-1 at home, extending its win streak to 10 games. The team showed strong hitting and pitching during an eight-game homestand as it prepared for upcoming matchups.  FSU News
  • Florida A&M softball shut out Mississippi Valley State 7-0 in a doubleheader sweep + extended their winning streak to six games on Saturday.  WCTV
  • Florida State hosted 76 high schools on Saturday for the Terry Long FSU Relays. Rickards’ Journee Belcher cleared a 1.8m jump to finish second in the girls’ high jump while Darius Jones II won the pole vault with three successful attempts on his first try, and Lincoln’s Jadon Buckles placed third in the boys’ long jump — his best jump measured 6.88m.  WCTV
