- ➤ Commissioner Brian Welch explained that two restaurant permits near Chiles High School on Thomasville Road are part of a decades-long plan that began with a 1997 land deed and careful zoning changes. - ➤ Tallahassee voters approved a resolution 4—1 on March 26 to rename the FSU basketball court in honor of retired coach Leonard Hamilton after a proclamation was presented to him. Commissioner Jeremy Matlow led the vote while Mayor John Dailey opposed the measure, and some local leaders are still discussing whether to name the court after Hamilton or coach Sue Semrau. - ➤ Governor DeSantis faces roadblocks in his legislative agenda as House Speaker Perez opposes his plans to cut property taxes and make the Hope Florida program a law while lawmakers override budget vetoes—further debates on reducing the state sales tax and adjusting condo repair rules add to the tension. - ➤ Florida lawmakers are reviewing a bill that would stop landlords who get federal, state or local funding from raising rents in the middle of a lease for affordable housing on rental agreements of 13 months or less that start on or after July 1, 2026 if the bill passes and Gov.
