- ➤ Today, WCTV started its 9th annual PBJ PLZ! drive with a sandwich contest on the Good Morning Show — the campaign asks students to bring peanut butter and jelly to Leon County schools to help feed children during the summer when school meals are not available. - ➤ Leadership Tallahassee — which has helped nearly 1,500 community leaders since 1983 — is accepting applications for Class 43 until April 7 to train locals to meet upcoming challenges. Interested citizens can apply or share the opportunity to help strengthen our community. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Carmen Vazquez Rivera, a 103-year-old veteran nurse who served in World War II and the Korean War, died on March 8 in Tallahassee—she worked as a detective and physical therapist and will be buried in Puerto Rico with her husband. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ The Recovery Opportunity Collective has moved into its new space at 2200 Old St. Augustine Rd.—it will hold its grand opening on April 5th to offer free help for neighbors facing substance abuse and mental health challenges. Founder Andrew Ingrassia said his own battles inspired him to create this safe space and he hopes many will come out to learn more. ABC 27

- ➤ A 21-year-old from Tallahassee died on Monday when his sedan collided with a stopped pickup truck with a trailer on I-10 westbound near mile marker 283 in Suwannee County — paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene. WCTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ FSU Associate Professor Martin Bauer got a grant from the National Science Foundation and the French National Research Agency (over $650,000 in funding) to lead a team in making better 3D models for medicine, science and computer graphics. His work will use math and shape study and will give graduate students a chance to travel to Houston and work with international partners. Florida State University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Ron DeSantis argued on Monday that Floridians need a one-time tax break for homesteaded property instead of a sales-tax cut, saying his plan would give about $1,000 in relief per homeowner. House Speaker Daniel Perez proposed reducing the sales-tax rate to 5.25 percent, and lawmakers will work on a new state budget until May 2 — the focus remains on easing the burden for Florida residents.
