  • Today, Buck Lake Elementary students dropped off jars of peanut butter and jelly in donation bins as PBJ PLZ! kicked off its drive to raise funds for summer meals for kids & fill local food pantries & help families beat summer hunger.  WCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Word of South festival will start tomorrow with events in and around Cascades Park that feature local and national talent. A sold-out Violent Femmes concert with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the Adderley Amphitheater — all other events will be free.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida State University Honors Program hosted its first Honors in the Major faculty reception today at the historic Beth Moor Lounge in the Longmire Building—honoring faculty mentors for guiding students in original thesis research. The program, which now includes 220 students and 168 faculty members, builds vital academic relationships and encourages creative inquiry.  Florida State University
  • Researchers at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering received a $5 million NASA grant to study 3D printing inks that can make sensors, radiation shields and other components for space missions—professor Subramanian Ramakrishnan and his team, with Florida A&M University administering the grant, will apply new electrohydrodynamic printing techniques for the project.  Florida State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida lawmakers have introduced new bills to regulate hemp extract and THC-infused beverages after Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed similar measures last year. The bills limit THC in beverages to 5 mg and require retailers to hold liquor licenses while setting packaging rules to reduce child appeal (they would take effect on Oct. 1 if passed).  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Leon County Commissioners David O'Keefe, Rick Minor and Bill Proctor committed to funding an affordable housing trust fund at a Nehemiah Action Meeting held Monday night at Old West Florida Enrichment Center — they agreed to use general revenue funds now and provide annual allocations for as long as the program is effective.  Tallahassee Democrat
