  • Yesterday, the tenth annual PBJ PLZ! donation drive kicked off in the WCTV studio when anchor Julie Montanaro joined Lanetra Bennett and Rob Nucatola in a sandwich-making contest to launch the fundraising campaign.  WCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Residents can join a variety of Easter events such as egg hunts, brunches and animal encounters this weekend in Big Bend and South Georgia, with activities scheduled on April 4 and April 5 at community farms, churches and parks.  ABC 27
  • Today, Tallahassee kicks off First Friday as the FSU Flying High Circus launches 'Tall Tales' at 7 p.m. in its new big top tent while a 20th-anniversary roller derby match is set for tomorrow at FAMU and free Easter egg hunts and a chess fest round out the weekend.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida State University will celebrate its graduate and professional students during a weeklong appreciation event from April 6 to April 10 at various campus locations (featuring financial workshops, research panels and art showcases) to honor their contributions and support future success.  Florida State University
  • Leon County Schools cut $7.8M from its $647M budget for the upcoming school year, approved on April 2 (to address declining enrollment and voucher effects) and impacting staffing, arts, and athletics while officials await possible state funding increases after July 1.  WFSU Public Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • With 4/20 approaching, Florida still bans recreational marijuana while allowing medical marijuana for residents with qualifying conditions and a state-issued ID card; voters did not meet the required threshold for legal recreational use, so enforcement remains under current law.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Florida State University's professor Antonio Terracciano (whose 2023 study linked loneliness with a 37% higher risk of Parkinson’s disease) is available for interviews during Parkinson’s Awareness Month.   • FSU CHAW has expanded its vaping prevention efforts on campus with a $20,000 grant (from Truth Initiative) to fund programs that train peer educators and hold presentations on vaping risks and health. The initiative supports student education and healthier choices.  FSU News

  • Club members voted on Monday to let a new private investor group negotiate a $30 million improvement plan at Capital City Country Club amid concerns over a historic memorial site — with deed restrictions still in place.
