- ➤ Leon County Schools announced that Fergie, an English Cocker Spaniel trained to smell out nicotine and vapes, will patrol middle and high schools from this month to help keep students safe. Fergie is contracted from former police officer Brian Pearson (her trainer) and the program is paid for by a $250,000 lawsuit settlement with Juul and Altria Group. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ On Thursday, the Florida Senate passed an education bill that removes algebra and English-language testing requirements for high school diplomas and adjusts English scores to count as part of course grades. Senate Education Chairman Corey Simon said the measure eases high stakes testing by focusing on progress monitoring—legislators now wait to see if the House will consider the proposal.
