COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NWF Health Network is merging with Capital City Youth Services to expand shelter, counseling and adoption services for at-risk children in northwest Florida. The partnership will use a CCYS facility to bring acute resources and improved benefits to reach underserved areas.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Entrepreneur Lewis Thurston II received the inaugural Michael Boyce Award on March 24 at FSU's LEAP Entrepreneur Spotlight Speaker Series for his resilience and dedication through VEZ Productions — he plans to expand his creative business into more Florida cities.  Florida State University

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to AAA, gas prices in Florida dropped slightly over Easter weekend with the state average at $4.198 on April 6 compared to $4.205 on Easter Sunday. In Tallahassee, prices are around $4.129 & still above the national average of $4.119.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida State University hosted its annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 1 at the Student Union Ballrooms, where over 700 students presented research on topics like artificial intelligence and local transit. The event gave students early research experience and recognized faculty mentors (awarded for their support).  FSU News
  • FAMU President Marva Johnson said the university (which adds $631 million and supports 5,156 local jobs) plans to boost resources and speed improvements as she spoke to the Capital Tiger Bay Club on April 3.  WFSU Public Media

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Residents can vote for the best chicken spot in the finals contest running until 8:00 a.m. Friday, April 10 + the winner will be crowned on Monday, April 13 as finalists Guthrie’s and Lindy’s Chicken compete for top honors.  Tallahassee Democrat

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • March permits jumped to 58 from 46 last year — a 26.1% increase — while the 3-month average permit value rose to $13.0 million from $12.7 million, reversing a declining trend since June 2025. Total permits issued in 2026 at 123 still lag behind early 2025’s 143.  Tallahassee Reports

  • FSU athletics partnered with FanWord on March 23 to automate game recaps and player bios for equal media coverage, and the platform uses AI+human review to speed up content production while keeping staff in control.  FSU News
