- ➤ FSU English professor Tarez Samra Graban received a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship to support her next book project 'Rhetorika Afrika: Finding (and Losing) Feminist Discourses in the Transnational Archive.' She will use a $30,000 sabbatical stipend over six months as she studies how archival practices shape the legacy of women leaders in Africa. Florida State University
- ➤ The WOW 2.0 event at Tallahassee State College connected over 140 graduating seniors with local employers on Tuesday—112 students received 331 contingent job offers from workforce development partners. Local organizations organized the event to help students who do not pursue post-secondary education enter quality career paths, and a Signing Day is scheduled for May 8. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Starting April 16, it will be illegal to remove bats from homes and sheds without a permit during their maternity season & the rule is meant to protect baby bats from being stranded. Residents will need to use approved methods or consult experts to safely handle bat infestations. Tallahassee Democrat
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City staff explained in a recent commission meeting that they do not recommend using eminent domain to stop the planned Circle K gas station near the Canopy neighborhood — no public necessity was found. Residents have raised concerns about the project — city officials will discuss other options during the meeting on April 16 at City Hall. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Lawmakers passed separate budget proposals on Wednesday and now have more than three weeks to reconcile their spending plans; the House plan cuts the sales-tax rate to 5.25 percent with a $5.4 billion tax package, while the Senate plan offers a permanent exemption on clothes and shoes costing $75 or less. Lawmakers expect to reach an agreement before the legislative session ends (May 2) and prepare for a new fiscal year starting July 1. Tallahassee Reports
