- ➤ Poor Paul’s Pourhouse closed for now after its owner Jim Smith died last summer and a short-lived GoFundMe for its workers was taken down amid financial troubles. A Friday Instagram story promoted a new Public Pour House account at 302 Raven St — fans now wonder if the cherished bar may move to a neighboring venue. FSU News

- ➤ Over the weekend, the Tallahassee Museum hosted a Jazz and Blues Festival where local bands performed on the outdoor stage and a Pioneer Breakfast was held early Saturday. The festival showcased Tallahassee's musical legacy—bands like the Tallahassee Swing Band and Rhythm Remedy played to support the museum. WFSU
- ➤ Florida State University's Flying High Circus made a new 20,000-square-foot tent almost one year after May 10 tornadoes destroyed its old tent—using tougher materials. Dozens of students, staff and local volunteers helped build the tent and recycled fabric into special bags—and will finish new rigging and seating for fall shows. FSU News

- ➤ FSU College of Law rose 10 spots to No. 38 in U.S. News and World Report’s 2025 rankings—its highest ranking ever—after finishing No. 48 in 2024, a jump that reflects a strong curriculum and dedicated faculty. FSU News
- ➤ Florida State University’s Grounds team works hard to keep the campus green and welcoming by planting trees, designing gardens and arranging seasonal plant displays. - ➤ Florida lawmakers are considering a bill that would require all private businesses to use E-Verify to check employee immigration status, and the measure would fine non-compliant businesses $1,000 each day while risking license suspension. Senate leaders have not yet decided if they will take up the House bill and more discussions will occur before the session ends on May 2. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Jaheim Bell, a Valdosta native and former Florida State football star now with the New England Patriots, hosted his fourth annual football camp for local youth at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium on April 13—he organized the camp a year after being drafted. WCTV

- ➤ Former FSU baseball star Cam Smith made his MLB debut on Opening Day March 27 for the Astros after a December trade from the Cubs following a strong minor league run—he adjusted quickly and hit his first RBI and triple on April 8, then his first home run on April 11—and he is now starting a promising season.
