CRIME NEWS

  • The Florida State University community is still recovering from a Thursday attack that killed two fathers and injured six others while 20-year-old student Phoenix Ikner awaits charges—memorials have honored the victims as survivors continue treatment.  Local 10
  • Florida State University senior Jason Leavy recounted surviving a shooting at FSU and the 2018 Parkland high school shooting, saying both experiences continue to affect him deeply.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • A mass shooting at Florida State University’s Student Union on Thursday killed two and injured six—five by gunfire and one while fleeing—with the alleged 20-year-old shooter, Phoenix Ikner, wounded by officers and remaining in the hospital while all injured victims are stable and debates over gun control continue as the nearby legislature stays in session.  CBS News

  • Managing Editor Kinsey Akers looked back on her four years at FSView and FSU after the shooting on April 17 and said that working with her news team and sorority friends helped turn hard times into lasting memories. She announced that Justice Ulrich will take over her role and stressed that her love for campus and Tallahassee will keep her cherished moments alive—like walks under blooming azaleas and sunny days on campus.  FSU News

  • Former FSU star Charlie Ward will be introduced as the new head basketball coach at FAMU today at 10 a.m. at the Alfred Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center—he replaces Patrick Crarey and aims to turn around a program that has not won since 2006-07.  Tallahassee Democrat
