BUSINESS NEWS

  • JoEllen's restaurant is moving to a new downtown space at 300 S Duval St on June 2 at 11 a.m. (the flagship location will be closed from May 25 until June 1) as owners Joe and Teresa Nix said the larger facility will improve customer service and expand catering.  Tallahassee Democrat

CULTURE NEWS

  • The film screening 'Two Regimes - Two Genocides' and a panel discussion will happen on Wednesday, Apr. 29 at Tallahassee Senior Center Auditorium (pre-event music starts at 5:30 p.m. and the film at 5:45 p.m.) to highlight a historic art collection's journey.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Local writer Cristen Elizabeth Rose and dragon author Rhett DeVane will host a Two-Dragon Party on May 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at My Favorite Books (111 S. Magnolia near Little Italy) to celebrate the new store location.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Author Richard Powers will lead today's Word of South festival event in Cascades Park from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. to discuss his novel 'Playground' that explores AI and marine life for local readers.  FSU News
  • Tallahassee celebrates the 30th anniversary of National Poetry Month with events featuring poet Stephanie Burt at Cascades Park.   • Florida State baseball lost in extra innings on Saturday, Apr. 25 at Klein Field in Palo Alto when Stanford’s Eric Jeon delivered the walk-off hit in the 11th inning, marking the Seminoles’ second series loss this season.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU softball beat Georgia Tech 4-3 Saturday night at Mewborn Field, clinching the series after an early 4-0 lead. A three-run homer in the fifth narrowed the gap, but FSU held on to take the win.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Darrell Jackson, who played three seasons at FSU in Tallahassee, was picked 103rd overall in the fourth round by the New York Jets during the NFL Draft on Saturday in Pittsburgh. The former Seminole recorded a career-high 45 tackles and now aims to bring his skills to his new team.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU football players may sign free agent deals after the draft. Players like offensive lineman Micah Pettus, quarterback Tommy Castellanos, and defensive back Jerry Wilson will try out at rookie minicamps following Darrell Jackson’s call with the Jets, with a tracker of these deals updated (streak maintained since 1984).  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Last Friday, FAMU softball clinched the SWAC East with an 8-7 walk-off win over Jackson State as the team hosted the game at its home field — a win that lifts league spirits.  WCTV
