  • Coosh's Bayou Rouge marks 25 years in Tallahassee by hosting its annual Crawfish Bawl event, celebrating growth from a 40-seat restaurant to two locations serving authentic Cajun dishes (featured on Guy Fieri's show) by co-owners Durand 'Coosh' Willis and his wife.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 10,000 graduates celebrated this weekend as FSU held five ceremonies at Tucker Civic Center awarding nearly 9,000 degrees while FAMU hosted three ceremonies conferring about 1,500 degrees at the Al Lawson Center.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Tallahassee State College’s Florida Safety Institute announced a new scholarship in honor of fallen officer Cody Terranova to support law enforcement recruits from Gadsden, Leon & Wakulla counties. The program will help aspiring officers begin their public safety careers.  ABC 27
  • Tallahassee colleges celebrated graduation as Florida State University awarded 8,923 degrees across Friday and Saturday ceremonies and Tallahassee State College honored 1,882 graduates on Thursday. Florida A&M also held events with livestreams and notable speakers (including Thasunda Brown Duckett and Omar Goff) to mark the milestone.  WCTV

  • Leon County officials extended the countywide burn ban through May 8 (the ban prohibits yard debris burning and campfires but allows attended grills) because drought conditions have kept wildfire risk high.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Village Square will host the 14th Annual Tallahassee Town Hall on Thursday, May 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at WFSU Studios, 1600 Red Barber Plaza & online, where local commissioners will discuss community progress and upcoming challenges.  Tallahassee Democrat

HEALTH NEWS

  • Florida's measles outbreak has more than doubled in the past eight months as student immunizations drop below levels needed for community protection. Gov. DeSantis plans changes to school vaccine rules from May 12 while health experts warn that easing exemptions may put communities (including Tallahassee) at risk.  Tallahassee Democrat
