- ➤ Orange-Meridian Park broke ground on May 8—creating a new social hub on Tallahassee’s south side near the under-construction Southside Transit Center. The $3.7 million park will offer a shaded children’s play area, fitness area, restrooms, picnic spaces and fruit trees—expected to be completed in early 2026. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Yaniv Dinur, the final candidate for the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra conductor job, impressed the audience with his light touch—letting the musicians and music lead—at the May 3 season finale. The program featured works by Boulanger, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky and earned the orchestra a standing ovation. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Today, Florida lawmakers finished most of the work in the 2025 legislative session by passing bills on ballot initiatives, condo safety, fluoride, schools, and state parks — and they plan to return next week to finish the budget and address rural development and other priorities. - ➤ Elected officials approved $670,000 in annual taxpayer funding today to give airlines an incentive to begin service at Tallahassee International Airport. WCTV

- ➤ During Hurricane Preparedness Week from May 4-10, May 8 focused on how to stay safe during storms by advising residents to avoid travel, flooded areas, and driving through floodwaters—rain and storm surge cause more direct deaths than wind.
