CULTURE NEWS

  • Mark Wallheiser, the Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer who documented decades of Tallahassee life, died Friday, May 15 after battling cancer. His vast collection was donated to FSU’s Strozier Library + his work will continue to inspire the local community.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Leon County high school seniors will graduate this week at several venues. The ceremonies are scheduled Monday at SAIL High, Tuesday at Chiles High (Tucker Civic Center, 505 W. Pensacola St.), Wednesday at Lincoln, Thursday at Rickards and Saturday at Godby and Leon, with security checks required.  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State softball played against Stetson at the Tallahassee regional on Saturday, May 16. The teams competed fiercely as players celebrated hits and plays + photos captured the action.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FAMU baseball beat Texas Southern 9-8 in a 16-inning game that lasted 5 hours 15 minutes on Saturday, May 16 — Josue Figueroa scored the winning run on a wild pitch to complete a series sweep. The Rattlers will begin the SWAC Tournament on Wednesday, May 20 in Birmingham.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State baseball lost its final regular season game 7-4 to Miami on Saturday and now prepares for the ACC tournament on Friday, May 22.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Yesterday, May 16, Florida A&M softball met Texas State in an elimination game at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville after both teams lost their opening-round matches — the game’s outcome determined who advanced to face the loser of the Florida-Georgia Tech match later that day.  Tallahassee Democrat
