  • Railroad Square businesses held Resilience Day Saturday to honor a year of rebuilding after tornadoes devastated the area on May 10, 2024—local owners and employees shared their commitment to recovery.  ABC 27

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yaniv Dinur was named the new conductor of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra after a May 3 audition—he will lead the season-opening concert on September 13th and said he aims to bring unforgettable musical experiences to the audience.  WFSU

HEALTH NEWS

  • The USDA suspended imports of live cattle, horses, and bison through southern border ports to stop a threat from the new world screwworm—a parasitic fly eradicated in 1966 that has recently resurfaced following an outbreak in Mexico. Florida agriculture officials and veterinarians are closely watching for signs of infection in animals and people to quickly control the spread of this dangerous pest.  WFLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State’s softball team controlled the Tallahassee Regional opener against Robert Morris by scoring five runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth to win 10—1. They were scheduled to face South Florida on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the winners bracket contest.  WCTV
  • Florida State softball beat USF 8-0 in six innings on Saturday to advance to its 12th straight regional championship game—sophomore Ashtyn Danley pitched five innings without allowing an earned run and Amaya Ross hit her fourth home run of the season, with the team set to face Auburn in today's championship game at noon.  WCTV
  • FSU softball coach Lonni Alameda, pitcher Ashtyn Danley & designated player Amaya Ross explained how the team won 8-0 over USF in day two of the NCAA tournament.  Tallahassee Democrat
