- ➤ Mickee Faust Club will launch its 17th annual Queer as Faust Festival at House of Music Tallahassee from May 30 to June 14 with its full production, 'QAF XVII: Join the Rodent Resistance,' featuring six performances starting at 8 p.m. on select Friday and Saturday nights. Additional events include a film screening on June 28 at Challenger Learning Center and an art exhibit at 621 Gallery from June 28 to 29—highlighting original sketches, music, and theater that speak to today’s community. - ➤ Florida State University has chosen 22 Gilman Scholars who will study abroad this summer — many will travel to places like the Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Ghana, Italy, and Germany to learn skills for their future jobs. The Gilman Scholarship, funded by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, will support college courses and internships that give students global experience — and help them prepare for their careers. - ➤ Assistant Professor David March from FSU received the Rising Star Award from the Association for Psychological Science this spring—his work on how threats influence perception has earned international acclaim. He joined the FSU psychology department in 2019 and will continue his research in this field. Florida State University

- ➤ As Memorial Day weekend begins, Florida still lacks a state budget and lawmakers remain more than 20 days overdue with no accord— the House extended the session through next month while the Senate has yet to sign on, heightening the risk of a government shutdown if no deal is reached by July 1. - ➤ Groups challenged a new law that shortened the petition period from 30 to 10 days—adding fines and felony penalties—in a hearing before Judge Walker on Thursday. They said the rule led to a steep drop in petition gathering and staffing for 2026 measures and asked the court to block the new restrictions. Tallahassee Democrat
