  • Tallahassee's Taproot Agency, founded by Sean Doughtie, will celebrate its 20th anniversary next month after growing from a one-man operation to a team of a dozen serving clients in many states—marking key local projects like downtown redevelopments that include the AC by Marriott Hotel and luxury Millstream apartments.  Tallahassee Democrat

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two Tallahassee barbecue teams, Cooper's Next Level BBQ and BlueWater Cooking Company, competed in the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, with Cooper's Next Level BBQ finishing second in ribs and third overall and BlueWater Cooking Company placing second in shoulder and fifth overall. They prepared early in the morning and used careful methods to smoke meat for judges — a sign of their dedication — as they aimed to earn trophies and international bragging rights.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly 2,000 graduates from the five Leon County Schools walked across the stage at the Tucker Civic Center—officials celebrated their achievements and urged them to keep learning.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • On Saturday, the Vision mentorship program in Tallahassee gave students a hands-on look at aviation when they operated aircraft controls, observed runway operations, and listened to live air traffic communications in a partnership with Epic Flight Academy led by Jamale Youmas. Two students changed their career plans to become pilots, and the program will host more events in aviation and other fields.  WCTV

  • Florida A&M’s baseball team lost to Bethune-Cookman in the SWAC championship game on Sunday at Rickwood Field — the Wildcats clinched an 11-9 win with a walk-off three-run home run by Andrey Martinez in the bottom of the ninth.  WCTV
  • Florida State baseball was selected to host an NCAA College World Series regional for the second season in a row, with details announced on May 25 and the full field and team seeding to be revealed today at noon on ESPN2—FSU may host a super regional if it becomes the highest remaining seed. This decision positions the Tallahassee venue as a key site for regional play.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida A&M baseball faces Bethune-Cookman in today's SWAC Tournament Championship game at 2 p.m. Eastern Time at Birmingham's Rickwood Field (the game is on ESPN Plus) as the winner will get an automatic NCAA Tournament bid. Florida A&M has won 14 of its last 15 games while Bethune-Cookman has five straight wins, making this match crucial for both teams.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Texas Tech swept FSU in the NCAA Super Regional to reach the Women’s College World Series for the first time, and coach Gerry Glasco praised FSU coach Lonni Alameda for her good sportsmanship and care—she sent him condolences after his daughter’s death.  Tallahassee Democrat
