- ➤ Members of VFW Post 3308 held a Memorial Day ceremony yesterday at the cemetery that honored veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice. The rain did not dampen local support as families gathered to pay tribute & reflect on the sacrifice of those who served. WCTV
- ➤ Community members and local leaders gathered at Greenwood Cemetery on Memorial Day to honor over 300 veterans with flag placements at this historic Black cemetery. Former Congressman Al Lawson hosted the ceremony + worked to recognize those whose service extended from World War I onward. WCTV
- ➤ Local Gold Star mothers and a grandmother spoke with WCTV about Memorial Day, sharing stories of lost loved ones including Lance Corporal Daniel Chaires and Private Jaivion Hawkins to teach younger generations the cost of our freedom. They urge the community to pause and reflect during celebrations. WCTV
- ➤ Tallahassee's Honor Flight sent 72 veterans to Washington D.C. today, including Vietnam veteran Alex Vega who reflected on the shared patriotism that united service members — Juanita Raymond, the only female gold shirt veteran, participated in the trip. WCTV

- ➤ On Wednesday, May 27 at 8:30 a.m., visitors will meet at the Historic Capitol Museum Rotunda for coffee, pastries, and a preview of a long-term exhibit of historic photos starting in July+ those with Capitol memories from before 1978 are invited to share their stories. WFSU Public Media

- ➤ Leon County's latest jobs report shows unemployment rose to 4.8 percent in April as job growth stalled — the workforce grew slightly, while the number of unemployed increased from 7,790 to 8,095 and employment was down 2,378 compared to last April. Tallahassee Reports

- ➤ Tallahassee State College and Sterling Flight Training launch the Professional Aeronautics Certification program today to help students earn FAA licenses quickly amid a pilot shortage. - ➤ Leon County Schools cut its 2026-27 staffing plan by $7M to realign support roles and shift its virtual school to an adjunct teaching model to address a $580k deficit, though district leaders said classroom sizes will remain stable.
