  • At Westminster Oaks, more than 100 residents gathered to honor eight veterans who passed away in the last year; the annual tribute has celebrated local heroes for 45 years.  WCTV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Buc-ee’s runs two busy travel centers in Florida and now plans four new stores, including a site in Tallahassee near I‑10 acquired last November—this expansion is expected to boost local job opportunities as part of the chain’s national growth.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eighteen Florida State University students will study abroad through the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program this summer and during the school year. They will travel to countries including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Brazil (and other destinations) to gain academic and cultural experience.  Florida State University
  • Florida State University polymer chemist Justin Kennemur received the 2026 Distinguished Service Award from the American Chemical Society’s POLY division for his role as secretary from January 2023 to December 2025 - he is FSU’s first recipient and plans to develop sustainable plastics for clean energy.  Florida State University
  • The Mandalorian and Grogu visited Texas Roadhouse today during the Dine for Literacy event, where the Read Like a Hero Community Literacy initiative gave children themed toys and free books. Families gathered to enjoy the surprise visit and celebrate the joy of reading.  WCTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The official start of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season (June 1) is less than a week away, and local forecasters say a below-normal outlook does not rule out tropical storms affecting our area. Residents should monitor weather alerts for any change in active disturbances.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • On Tuesday, May 26, crews worked to battle a 1,900-acre wildfire in the Apalachicola National Forest in Wakulla Co. The U.S. Forest Service said they deployed multiple resources (including water and ground crews) to control the blaze.  WCTV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • WalletHub's study (released May 26) ranked 182 cities for raising families and placed Tallahassee at No. 123 while Orlando ranked highest among Floridian cities at No. 49. It used measures like playgrounds and school quality to compare family-friendly conditions for 2026.  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State baseball will host the Tallahassee Regional at Dick Howser Stadium on Friday, May 29—head coach Link Jarrett said he is proud of the team for achieving a third straight regional despite injuries and a tough schedule.
