  • The annual Tallahassee Food Challenge—organized by local marketer Brien Sorne—is set to support ECHO by raising funds for food assistance in Leon, Gadsden, Wakulla, Jefferson and Liberty counties.   • On May 29, dozens of law enforcement officers raided sites near CollegeTown and Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee in an illegal immigration crackdown with agents from the Florida Highway Patrol & Homeland Security Investigations detaining people from multiple countries.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • FAMU’s Foundation board will meet today at 2 p.m. via Zoom and in person in Frisco, Texas to vote on President Marva Johnson’s compensation package, where she—the new president—has requested a $750,000 salary that covers base pay and bonuses. Critics have raised concerns over the university’s ability to fund the high pay amid existing financial commitments.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Florida A&M football has secured a commitment from quarterback Jett Peddy (who threw 2,706 yards and 23 touchdowns last season) as he joins the Rattlers' mix of new and returning quarterbacks. Peddy, a Torrance, California native who visited campus recently, will prepare for the season-opening game against Howard on August 30.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Professional and amateur water skiers head to Quincy today for the S-Lines Lake 38 Pro Am event where amateurs compete today and pros ski on Saturday and Sunday—local water skier Carter Eaton is chasing his dream of becoming a pro after growing up skiing in Alaska.  WCTV
