- ➤ Florida Gov. DeSantis and the state’s top emergency manager warned residents to prepare for hurricane season as NOAA forecasts a season that could be busier than normal, urging everyone to have seven days of food, water and supplies ready. They added that knowing evacuation zones is crucial—though a delay in passing the state budget has postponed a tax holiday for buying storm supplies. The Independent
- ➤ Nearly 200 protesters gathered on the Capitol lawn Friday to protest immigration raids, including a construction site raid on Thursday that detained over 100 people—protesters said the actions were unjust. WCTV
- ➤ Officials from Leon County and Tallahassee urged residents today to prepare for an above average hurricane season starting June 1 by packing essential supplies such as medication, batteries, a weather radio and important documents into a five-gallon bucket. The forecast predicts 13 to 19 named storms, 6 to 10 hurricanes and 3 to 5 major hurricanes and community officials showed residents which items to pack at the Public Safety Complex. - ➤ Former FSU President John Thrasher, who served as Speaker of the Florida House and in the Florida Senate, passed away at 81 Friday morning in Orlando and his family thanked the doctors and nurses for their care — a private burial will be held in Orange Park with a celebration of his life scheduled for August 19.
