  • Tallahassee dads, granddads, and father figures will join the Capital Area Healthy Start Coalition's third annual Dads & Strollers event at Cascade Park on Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as they vie for a free stroller plus enjoy games, refreshments, and photo opportunities.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Today, Tallahassee's Caleb Stewart, 11, was recognized by Guinness as the world’s youngest motivational speaker after giving a speech on self-belief — he began speaking at age 3 and now regularly addresses schools, churches and community events — marking his continued impact.  WCTV

  • Scientists from FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory discovered a universal law showing how tiny whirlpools in superfluid helium move, collide, and release bursts of energy. The study used frozen deuterium particles, a laser sheet, and a high-speed camera to capture vortex reconnections—revealing a time asymmetry in energy bursts that may help explain turbulence in both quantum and regular fluids.  Florida State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Smart and Safe Florida collected over 377,000 verified signatures to let adults use marijuana and beat the 220,000 needed for state review—Attorney General James Uthmeier will now send the amendment language to the Florida Supreme Court.   • Developer Ken McDermott plans to restart the long-stalled Washington Square project downtown despite a pending foreclosure lawsuit, mounting fines and demands to reopen sidewalks, and Leon County officials will set a strict deadline—if repairs are not completed soon, legal action will begin.  WCTV

  • Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare set a new executive leadership structure effective June 1 to expand its services from one hospital into a regional system; Mark O’Bryant remains as CEO– Ryan Smith is now president and COO of the main hospital while Andrew Starr leads West Market operations.   • Filings with Leon County and Tallahassee show that new single-family construction permits in May fell 30.3% to 46 permits from 66 last May — permit values dropped 17.4% from $16.1 million to $13.3 million — signaling a slowdown in the local housing market.  Tallahassee Reports
