ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Leon County lost 3,812 jobs in May—worker numbers dropped from 161,768 to 157,949 as the labor force fell by 3,386. The unemployment rate rose to 3.8 percent from 3.5 percent in April even though job numbers were 1,570 higher than May last year. Tallahassee Reports
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On June 17, the Leon County School Board approved a new AI policy for students and staff that allows AI for research, data analysis, translation, and disability support while banning its use for cheating—violations may lead to expulsion—and the software will run on closed systems to secure student data. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ At the June 17 school board meeting, Leon County officials approved new policies—including one on artificial intelligence and one on academic honesty—and amended others effective June 18 while setting public hearings for group health plan changes and a new project manager role on July 29; the board also approved a $75,000 lawsuit settlement and a Magic School AI contract. Superintendent Hanna scheduled a public hearing for instructional materials adoption, and board members Cox and Jones were absent. Tallahassee Reports
