- ➤ FSU graduate Nicholas Suttell opened New World Rides VRcade in Tallahassee to offer active virtual reality games that blend play with STEM learning. - ➤ The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is planning a regulated bear hunt to help control a black bear population that has grown from a few hundred to over 4,000 — the plan will issue 68 permits in key areas like the East Panhandle with an estimated 1,060 bears. - ➤ Leon County elected officials will review a proposed charter review process that calls for appointing a 14-member Citizen Charter Review Committee by November 3—this committee will meet biweekly starting October 23 for up to 120 days to study revisions to the County’s Home Rule Charter for the general election. - ➤ Lucy’s Law took effect July 1 after a 2022 boating accident killed 17-year-old Lucy Fernandez—her loss led to tougher rules on the water. The law makes boaters face felony charges for leaving an accident—boating under the influence now carries penalties like a DUI and most vessels must be safety certified. ABC 27
