- ➤ People filled Maclay Gardens on Saturday for a community fun day that brought first responders and individuals with autism together to learn how best to handle emergencies. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office and FSU Card (Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) organized the event where kids enjoyed free treats and games, and officers learned strategies to support those with sensory needs. - ➤ A 20-year-old man died Sunday morning after his silver ATV left the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail near Woodville Highway and hit a tree—flipping over and ejecting him at the scene. Tallahassee Democrat

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Florida Sheriffs Association is building a $24 million youth education center on Mahan Drive near its Tallahassee headquarters to improve relations with young people and encourage law enforcement careers. The two-story, 22,000 square foot center with a 67-seat theater and interactive exhibits will be finished within two years—following a groundbreaking ceremony on July 11. WFSU
- ➤ County sheriffs gathered at the Florida Sheriffs Association headquarters in Tallahassee on Friday to break ground on a new $24 million youth center — the two story building will include a theater with 67 seats, interactive displays, a 2100 square foot library and high-tech training tools. - ➤ Three Florida State Seminoles were selected in night one of the MLB draft as shortstop Alex Lodise was picked 60th overall by the Braves & pitcher Cam Leiter was chosen 65th overall by the Dodgers. - ➤ FAMU has hired Maurice Sims (Coach Mo) as the new Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Wellness to use his championship experience from Colorado and Jackson State to improve the Rattlers' strength training. He will plan fundraising and buy new equipment to help the team overcome limited resources as it prepares for preseason camp and its Aug. 30 season opener against Howard. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Florida State star pitcher Jamie Arnold was taken 11th overall by the Athletics in the 2025 MLB Draft Sunday night — he posted a 2.98 ERA in his final season in Tallahassee and the team will relocate to Las Vegas once its new stadium is complete. WCTV
